Zazzle - coming soon!

I'm excited to announce that I will soon be selling reproductions of my art on Zazzle!  What's really cool about this site is that I can sell my reproductions in the form of greeting cards, iPhone covers, designs on coffee mugs, etc.  Not sure what all I'm going to do exactly in regards to this, but I think I'll at least start with greeting cards.  More info to come soon!

'Lake Tahoe' sold!

I recently updated the prices on my California Landscape Gouache paintings, and as it turns out I just sold my 'Lake Tahoe' painting.  Very exciting to be able to sell my art, and to know that it will be appreciated by those who are acquiring it!  Thanks!

Mastering Color by Richard Robinson

I recently stumbled across Mastering Color by Richard Robinson in New Zealand, which is a great video painting course for any painting medium - oils, acrylic, watercolor etc - it's all about how to see color properly and translate it to canvas. It covers lots of in-depth material in a way that's really easy to understand. I totally recommend this for all painters who need better control of their color - and lets face it, most of us do! Here's the link to the website:

Oh, here's the chapter list too:

1. Color Theory
2. Seeing Color
3. Describing Color
4. Value
5. Mixing Color
6. Manipulating Color
7. Color Harmony
8. Light Effects

You can watch the first chapter for free on the site:

Getting noticed, as well as gaining exposure when selling your art

I recently read of an excellent idea in regards to getting some exposure for your art.  When you sell a piece of art, instead of taking it to the recipient's home or business (or having the buyer come to you to pick it up), arrange to meet the recipient in a public location, where many people will witness the transaction.  Showing the work to the recipient, discussing the piece a little, having the art/payment exchange hands all in the presence of a lot of people is bound to generate attention, and may very well cause curious people to approach you.  So, it's a good idea to have business cards, and a portfolio with you as well in case you generate this type of interest!

Painting Waterfalls

For anyone who would like to learn, or improve upon painting waterfalls, here's a great resource:

Johannes Vloothuis is a great instructor, and he has given live web-based instruction on other topics such as painting skyscapes, mountains, and how to paint from photographs.

New Etsy Shop

I'm very excited to have finished setting up my first Etsy shop.  It contains my paintings from a few years ago.  Check it out:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/stevekohr

I also have about 40 abstract paintings that I am considering adding to my shop.  Setting up an Etsy shop was pretty easy, which is great!  I highly recommend it toanyone wanting to sell their art or handmade items!

Highly recommended art/composition books

Hi everyone, I want to share two excellent books that deal with art, composition, mass and value planning. These books have been a huge help to me, and have taught me A LOT! If you want to take your drawing/painting to the next level, and you feel that you struggle with composition, design, and value planning, these books are EXCELLENT resources.
